Membership Application - 2010
PROUD, the community- based volunteer organization founded in March, 1999 to pursue heritage designation for Port Dalhousie has incorporated as PROUD Port Dalhousie, an Ontario Not For Profit Corporation. Consistent with its work over the previous 11 years, PROUD Port Dalhousie’s Mission is: To actively support the development and implementation of community-backed initiatives that help preserve and/or enhance Port Dalhousie's architectural, landscape and cultural heritage; and to support other community-backed initiatives that are consistent with heritage preservation.
PROUD Port Dalhousie has launched its SOS (Save Our Seaport) Campaign whose objective is: To communicate with our elected officials to help ensure they do NOT approve a development proposal
for the Commercial Core that does not respect Port's unique character (or the Official Plan, Zoning By-Laws and Heritage Guidelines). PROUD Port Dalhousie is NOT against appropriate development that
respects the wishes of the majority of residents and preserves the 19th century (and early 20th century) lakefront village streetscape that St. Catharines (and Niagara Region) residents treasure.
