Good Morning Volunteers and Friends of Port Dalhousie and St. Catharines,

Our Municipal Election is finally over and the results are just amazingly positive. The people have spoken loudly and clearly and sent a message to our politicians. This message included: no more secrets, no more ignoring your constituents and, MOST DEFINITELY, no tower in Port Dalhousie. We are copying below an email a member of our Executive sent out earlier.

"Greetings to the many, many of you that have supported us and shown an interest in how things are proceeding in St. Catharines,

It was a remarkable election outcome:

Our new mayor, Brian McMullan, who took a strong anti-PDVC development stand, won by more votes than the next three candidates combined (all of whom were strongly pro-PDVC development).

Of the 12 City candidates that we supported based on their potential for good governance as well as their stated opposition to the PDVC development, 9 were elected to office (plus a 10th was elected who is also very much against the tower development)

Of the 7 municipal politicians that voted for the PDVC development municipally, 6 were defeated (the 7th had no credible opposition).

Of the 5 Councillors who were opposed to that development, all were returned to office.

The supporters of the developers quoted a highly questionable survey as proving "scientifically" that the majority of the citizens were for placing a 20 storey tower along with other massive development into the heritage designated core of downtown Port. Apparently the citizens of our fair city don't understand scientific surveys, and
they have spoken. What a remarkably clear message!

The project has been approved to proceed by both the city and the region, and currently it is heading for the OMB for a ruling, so things are not over by a long way, but in spite of that, this is a fine new morning here in Port Dalhousie and St. Catharines.

Thanks so much for all of your support and concern. Are those interesting noises that I am hearing the sounds of a towering proposal developing some early stress fractures."
